Breast Reduction
The size and appearance of breasts are some of the most important issues for women in terms of aesthetics. On the other hand, its effects on the psychological state and health of women should not be ignored.
When breasts are larger than normal and cause various problems, breast reduction surgery can be done to change the size, weight, firmness and shape of the breasts. With breast reduction surgery, problems such as skin irritations, posture disorders, back and neck pain can be eliminated.
What is Breast Reduction?
The aesthetic surgical procedure for removing excess tissues of breasts that are larger than normal is called breast reduction surgery. Within the scope of breast reduction surgery, breast tissue and excess skin are removed. It ensures breasts to have the desired shape and size.
Breast reduction surgery is an effective solution for women who are dissatisfied with the size of their breasts, who experience conditions that adversely affect their quality of life, such as poor posture, breathing problems, neck, shoulder and back pain. As a result of patient-specific planning, it is possible to achieve smaller breasts that are compatible with the rest of the body and have an aesthetic appearance. Also, the quality of life of the patient can be increased by eliminating the health problems caused by the size of the breasts.
How Is Breast Reduction Done?
Breast reduction surgery can be performed using different techniques. Although it is usually completed within 2-3 hours, the duration of the operation may differ depending on the scope of the procedure. During breast reduction surgery performed under general anesthesia, the breast is reduced in volume and its shape is improved and the nipple is repositioned. Surgery is usually performed using reverse T and lollipop incision methods.
In the reverse T incision method, an inverted T-shaped incision is made in the lower part of the breast, while in the lollipop incision method, a circular incision is made around the nipple. If the surgeon deems it appropriate, nipples may be moved up. When done in combination with breast lift surgery, care should be taken not to damage the milk ducts and to prevent any disturbance in breastfeeding function.
Post Breast Reduction
Where scars may remain after breast reduction surgery may differ depending on the technique used. After the operation, dressings should be applied regularly and hygiene should be maintained in the area. All medications prescribed by the doctor should be used accordingly to ensure the post-operative recovery process is not disrupted.
Temporary bruising, swelling and nipple numbness may occur after surgery. The patient should wear a special sports bra for 4 weeks following the surgery. Also, the patient should sleep on her back and avoid moving arms in a forceful manner; tennis, swimming and other sports activities can resume with the approval of the doctor. In addition, it is necessary to stay away from Turkish bath, sauna and solarium during the specified period.
