Delivery
Delivery is a natural process within the female body and it is unique for every woman. From the moment expectant mothers learn that they are pregnant, they begin to contemplate what kind of delivery they will have.
Cesarean Delivery
Cesarean delivery is a surgical procedure that requires an incision in the mother's abdomen and uterus to allow one or multiple babies to be born. It can be performed under general, local or epidural anesthesia.
Cesarean section may be preferred if the baby is not in the ideal delivery position, or if it is too large and may damage the cervix during normal delivery, or if there is a medical condition that may cause difficulties during normal delivery.
After anesthesia is applied to the expectant mother, an 8-9 cm long horizontal incision is made in the lower abdomen, and the abdominal wall is opened. The incision is deepened and all abdominal layers are opened to reach the uterine wall. The placenta is removed from the uterus and the baby is taken out.
Vaginal Delivery
Vaginal delivery is actually the natural form of birth, where the baby is born vaginally. Vaginal delivery consists of three stages. In the first stage, there are regular contractions. The process from full dilatation to birth is the second stage. In the third stage of vaginal delivery, the placenta separates. Cervical opening should reach 8 - 10 cm for vaginal delivery.
Delivery in Water
Delivery in water is classified as normal birth, where the mother experiences the birth process in a pool filled with 35-37 degrees warm water. Warm water contributes to the initiation of the natural labor process and to deal with labor pains.
Epidural Delivery
During epidural delivery, anesthetic substance is administered through a catheter inserted into the spinal cord of the expectant mother. The expectant mother is anesthetized from the waist down, and the feeling of pain is prevented. The movements of the expectant mother are not restricted, instread, psychological relief is provided with this effective pain management method.
Spinal Delivery
Spinal anesthesia takes effect as soon as it is administered. Although it has the same effect as epidural anesthesia, the difference of spinal anesthesia is that it is injected into the fluid-filled sac. It is one of the preferred methods in cesarean delivery. In this method, the mother can see her baby as soon as it is born.
