Endometriosis (Chocolate Cyst)
When the endometrium tissue that covers the inside of the uterus grows outside the uterus, usually causing pain, this disease is called endometriosis (chocolate cyst). Although endometriosis affects the pelvis, ovaries, and fallopian tubes of most patients, endometrial tissue rarely develops beyond the pelvic organs.
Endometriosis (Chocolate Cyst) Symptoms
Pelvic pain associated with the menstrual period is considered the primary symptom of endometriosis. Although many women experience cramps during their menstrual period, menstrual pain is much more severe in cases of endometriosis. Pain may get more severe over time.
- The onset of pelvic pain and cramping before the menstrual period, lasting for a few days with low back and abdominal pain,
- Pain during or after sexual intercourse,
- Menstrual bleeding between menstrual periods,
- Constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, nausea and bloating during menstrual periods,
- Difficulty conceiving can be listed among the symptoms of endometriosis.
Endometriosis (Chocolate Cyst) Treatment
Endometriosis treatment is planned individually according to complaints, examination findings and whether pregnancy is planned. Patients are recommended to make changes in their lifestyle, implement a balanced diet, exercise regularly and stay away from stress.
In cases where patients experience pain due to endometriosis, the first choice is medication. If there is no cancer risk, it is possible to follow up chocolate cysts of various sizes with medication. Medication may prevent pregnancy while suppressing endometriosis. When patients are unable to conceive, factors such as the patient's age, ovarian reserve, duration of infertility and whether they previously had children should be evaluated. In such cases, it may be necessary to resort to assisted reproductive techniques.
Removing endometriosis lesions, detaching adhesions and restoring the patient's anatomy within the scope of surgical procedure can increase the chances of natural conception.
