Fast and Fixed
Loss of one or more teeth due to various reasons can lead to adverse health issues, as well as being aesthetically displeasing. Although there are various methods that can be used to restore missing teeth, implant treatment is the most preferred method due to its many advantages.
However, the cost of implant treatment may be higher than alternative methods. Additionally, the patient's jawbone is expected to be strong enough to properly handle the implant. In the absence of sufficient bone tissue, procedures such as split osteotomy and artificial graft insertion should be applied to prepare the patient for implant treatment. If approved by the dentist, Fast and Fixed treatment can be applied to patients who wish to get their teeth as soon as possible without having to spend time for these procedures.
What is Fast and Fixed?
Fast and Fixed treatment can be defined as a procedure based on immediate placement of implants in the edentulous jaw. It is generally applied for patients who have complete edentulousness. With this treatment method, patients whose existing teeth need to be extracted can also have temporary fixed teeth on the same day.
Fast and Fixed treatment allows for time and cost savings for patients, and temporary fixed prostheses ready to be used on the same day can be made for patients, ensuring no problems in patient’s social life. Implants and prostheses can be made practically without the need for a surgical procedure for patients who are suitable for the fast and fixed procedure.
Patients who have the Fast and Fixed method take advantage of making fixed prostheses by using angular implants in areas with bone deficiency. Implants can be made on the day of tooth extraction without the need for any further surgical intervention. Patients can be provided with temporary fixed teeth within a few hours.
How is Fast and Fixed Done?
Clinical and radiographic examinations are conducted on patients who will be treated with Fast and Fixed treatment. Suitability for treatment is decided on a case-by-case basis. If the patient has an oral infection due to lack of hygiene, Fast and Fixed treatment can be started after the infection is eliminated and oral care routine is arranged.
A customized prosthesis is designed and support areas necessary for the prosthesis are planned. The suitability of bone tissue in the associated areas is evaluated over 3-dimensional radiographic imaging. After the diameter, length and location of the implants are decided, the treatment is started.
Fast and Fixed treatment is applied under local anesthesia. If any teeth need to be extracted, tooth extraction is done first. The extraction cavity is cleaned and prepared for implant treatment. Sockets suitable for the implant are prepared in the jawbone and each implant is placed in relevant sockets. After the completion of the implant treatment, the temporary dental prostheses prepared are placed on the implants and the first stage of the treatment is completed.
A certain amount time needs to pass before application of permanent dental prostheses on implants. This period is usually a minimum of 5 weeks for the lower jaw and a minimum of 10 weeks for the upper jaw, and may vary from person to person. In the second stage of the treatment, that begins after bone fusion, temporary dental prostheses can be removed and permanent prosthesis can be tried. If compatibility with the implant is ensured, permanent dental prostheses are adapted to the implant and the treatment is completed.
