Micro TESE Treatment
The non-occurrence of pregnancy despite unprotected and regular sexual intercourse for one year is called infertility. Infertility can be caused due to the woman, man, or both. There can be many different causes of male infertility. One of these is the absence of sperm in the semen and Micro TESE method can be used in this case.
Who is Micro TESE Treatment for?
The microscopic operation of removing tissue from the testicles of men who have no sperm cells in their semen (those diagnosed with azoospermia) and searching for sperm in the tissue is called the Micro TESE procedure. Micro TESE is a surgical procedure. The absence of sperm in the semen of men has various causes such as:
- Congenital absence of sperm canals,
- Obstructions in the sperm canal,
- Genetic factors,
- Hormonal factors,
- Infection,
- Use of medication and exposure to radiation, especially when used in the treatment of cancer.
How is Micro TESE done?
Micro TESE is a painless procedure done under general anesthesia. It is completed in about 2 hours. Tissue samples are taken under the microscope from at least 4 different points of both testicles with the highest probability of existence of sperm. Tissue samples are then processed in various ways. This allows to separate living sperm cells and microinjection can be applied using the separated sperm cells.
There is a risk of not being able to obtain sperm cells in patients doing Micro TESE procedure. Although this may vary from person to person, the probability of obtaining viable sperm cells is higher in patients with clogged sperm ducts compared to patients with hormonal or genetic problems.
How Many Times Can Micro TESE Surgery Be Performed?
Micro TESE surgery can be performed multiple times. However, the number of times Micro TESE surgery can be performed may vary for each patient. Since the issue and degree of issue for each patient may be different, the number of times Micro TESE surgery can be performed is determined as a result of patient-specific assessment.
Within the scope of micro TESE surgery, millimetric pieces of testicular tissue are taken. Utmost attention is paid to the vascular structure during the operation. This means that the testis and male hormone release will be much less damaged in micro TESE surgery than in classical TESE surgery. Therefore, it is possible to apply Micro TESE operation more than once to the patients who are deemed suitable.
However, the extent to which the male hormone level of the patient undergoing Micro TESE surgery will be affected may differ depending on factors such as the patient's testicle size, male hormone level before the operation, and previous TESE operations.
Therefore, a decision should be made as to whether it is appropriate to repeat the Micro TESE surgery after assessing each patient individually.
