Pregnancy Monitoring

Pregnancy monitoring is to protect the health of the mother and the baby during the pregnancy process and to help the baby to be born healthy. Pregnancy monitoring is a process that starts from the moment the expectant mother is diagnosed with pregnancy. It is possible to see the gestational sac with ultrasound usually 2 weeks after the diagnosis of pregnancy with a blood and urine test. However, if the possibility of pregnancy is detected and diagnosed late, gestational sac may be seen in less than 2 weeks or simultaneously with the diagnosis of pregnancy.

In singleton pregnancies, monitoring is done every 2 to 3 weeks for the first 3 months. Afterwards, pregnancy monitoring continues on a monthly basis. In multiple pregnancies, in case of recurrent miscarriage or maternal disease, pregnancy monitoring is done more frequently.

Weekly Checks During Pregnancy

  • During weeks 10-14, the baby's nuchal thickness is measured, and a double screening test is performed.
  • During weeks 16-18, amniocentesis is done after triple screening test and ultrasound evaluation, if necessary.
  • During weeks 20-24, a detailed ultrasonography is used to evaluate whether there is an abnormality in the baby.
  • During weeks 24-28, blood sugar loading test is done. Pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes are given a suitable nutrition program.
  • Pregnant women with blood incompatibility are injected with blood incompatibility shot at the 28th week.
  • During weeks 28-36, the baby continues to be monitored with ultrasound. The mother's weight and blood pressure are monitored.
  • After the 36th week, the mode of delivery is decided. A cesarean delivery is planned if there is an obstacle to normal delivery. The condition of the baby is evaluated with the NST test performed once a week. The NST test is done every 2-3 days after the 40th week, and the baby's water is measured regularly with ultrasound in the last weeks.
  • After the 40th week, the pregnant woman is seen every 2-3 days. In case labor does not start, it may be possible for the pregnant woman to be hospitalized and given medication to initiate the labor.
